I wanted to get a quote for oil change in my audi and I called to the service. A man said that he will call back. Of course nobody called back. Then I went to the service personally. A girl on the reception listened my request and even wrote down my VIN. She said that she needs to advice with mechanics and she will call back. Upd. Haven't heard since back. Completely abandoned their potential customer. Again, of course nobody called back. Conclusion: if there is such a service on the start, then what to expect later? I decided not to go there and leave my car.

This shop has the greatest look, but the substance is sorely lacking. The front end staff seem great, but the mechanics that are all important are lacking in skill and care! I took my VW Eurovan Winnebago camper here for work to fix initially a check engine light - and then the fun and costs escalated! German Car Specialist spends a lot of time looking for items you didn't ask them to fix! Before you know it, the cost has escalated out of control with all the items they keep finding that need to be fixed urgently(according to them)! The shop's mechanics also managed to leave oily fingermarks on the inside of my driver's door, and did not bother to clean them up before returning the vehicle to me. When I called to complain the previously friendly service advisor(no name but you know who you are) became guarded and unfriendly - complaining about this sort of stuff quickly changes the atmosphere here to decidedly frosty - how dare a member of the public have the audacity to complain! This shop is very expensive, and their work is average at best! Check other reviews and also be aware they are not members of the Better Business Bureau - now I understand why! My advice is to take your business elsewhere to mechanics that actually care about the customer - you won't find them here - as for the owner of this business, good luck finding him or getting a reasonable response from him!!! Make sure you get a second opinion on any work they suggest from another mechanic before you go ahead with German Car Specialist - you have been warned!!!!!!!!

When your Eurovan first came in for the Check Engine Light January 27, 2026, after your authorization for the repair, our technicians noted several additional concerns during that repair—most notably the inner CV boots, which were split open and leaking grease. You then returned February 10, 2026 for that repair. We understand it can feel overwhelming when repairs are brought to attention, but we feel it’s our responsibility to make sure clients are aware of anything we see that could lead to a safety issue or costly failure later. Regarding the fingerprint mark inside the driver’s door: Our service advisor followed up from the voicemail you left afterhours. After a couple of voicemails back and forth, arranged for you to return so we could correct it. When you arrived, they apologized for the oversight, but you expressed that you did not want an apology. Even so, we cleaned the mark as promised. We fully recognize that any mess—no matter how small—affects your trust, and we take that seriously. We do try and perform a complimentary clean, like your first visit in January, when time and weather permits. During your most recent visit, unfortunately that complimentary clean could not be accommodated. You informed us that this vehicle is important to you with the up coming trip across Canada and to the USA and that you’ve struggled to find a shop you like to work with. Our team, from the advisors to the technicians, take pride in their work and, we remain committed to continuously improving. We do our best to build lasting relationships and if a mistake is made, we want to fix it – that’s how relationships are built – trust on both sides. We take care of problems when they arise and take responsibility when it is warranted. Regarding your comment about the owner being unreachable: We want to clarify that while the owner may not be physically at the shop every single day, he is in daily, ongoing contact with the team and is always available when a client requests to speak with him. In your case, neither your voicemail nor your conversation with our service advisor included a request to contact the owner. If it had, that message would have been relayed immediately, and a follow-up from the owner would have occurred—as it does for all clients who request it. We never ignore those requests. As for the BBB reference: Membership is optional for businesses, and choosing not to participate does not limit our accountability. We stand behind our work, our warranty, and transparency with every client who walks through our doors. We sincerely wish your experience had been different. If you ever decide to reconnect or if there’s something more you would like us to understand, our door—and the owner’s—is always open. Above all, we want every client to feel respected, informed, and confident in the care their vehicle receives. We wish you and your Eurovan all the best moving forward.

I just started taking my VW and MINI to them last year and I wished I’ve done it sooner. What made them really stand out, not just their professionalism and care, is their attention to detail and honesty. I have a couple of stories. First, I knew I needed to get my exhaust down pipe repaired on my MINI along with a few other things. Instead of just giving me a quote for that pipe fix. They sent business away and told me it would be much cheaper and faster if I took it to the muffler specialist. I really appreciated that honesty. It turned out that it was close to half of what Mini dealership quoted me. I’m guessing the job would go to the specialist anyway but they just take a big markup. Second, I recently had to get a wheel bolt thread fixed. They gave me a quote by vmail and email and that’s what I paid. No upselling or try to get the most out of me. But that’s not the story I wanted to share. Just before I took my vehicle in, I noticed one of my tires is missing a cap for the inflator tube. When I got it back, I noticed they put a new one on. The cap is literally pennies but it’s that attention to details, and not telling they did that, is what really matters. I’d recommend them to everyone!

I recently had my Audi B8.5 S4 taken in to do preventative maintenance. I had my PCV valve, thermostat, and water-pump replaced along with an oil change and walnut blast. The consultation was straight to the point, clear and concise. The service was performed professionally, timely and thoughtfully by Mike Breel. I would definitely recommend GCS to people unable to perform maintenances at home. GCS also offered me a complementary hand exterior wash which left my car looking absolutely phenomenal - my salt stained floor mats were left spotless as well.

We experienced engine trouble on the highway on our way back east into the city. While they were not able to complete a full diagnosis they were able to trouble shoot and provide options on potentially solving the issue. Brittany called back twice to provide further thoughts on solutions but we ultimately made the decision to tow the vehicle back to their shop in Calgary. All work was then completed quickly and we had the car back in two days. Great service. Dedicated, solution driven and customer focused.

Everyone I dealt with was incredibly kind, patient, and genuinely helpful. They took the time to explain everything clearly without making me feel rushed or talked down to, which I really appreciated. The pricing was very reasonable, especially considering the level of expertise and care they put into the job. They truly went above and beyond to get my car running perfectly again. A few days after picking it up, my check engine light did come back on (they had actually warned me this was a possibility because of an intermittent sensor issue they were monitoring). I called them straight away and they got me booked in based on my schedule – no hassle. I have full confidence they’ll have it fixed properly this time and I’ll keep driving with complete peace of mind. If you own a German car and want a shop you can actually trust, these are your people! 10/10.

UPDATE: October 24, 2025 RATING: 5 STARS I want to thank Dennis, the owner of this establishment for offering a solution to my previous 2023 review. Since that review I had used the car minimally and at that time, Dennis had offered to perform a deep engine inspection for no charge when I had time to bring it in. 2 years later that time finally came. I called Ben who booked my vehicle in the shop and got the job done. Thanks again Dennis, Ben and the staff. Highly Recommend! -------------------------------- Date of Service: February 2023 Mileage at pickup: 157230 Current Mileage: 158023 3 STARS I am not about to carve a hole in this establishment but am super disappointed in this latest visit. This was my third visit to this shop and I would have expected better, more professional service and more knowledgeable support and advice from here. Ben was my service advisor on this particular job. My Benz engine was misfiring occasionally and the engine light would display. This would happen intermittently so I brought it in for attention and a solution. He had the service technician run a diagnostic on it and based on the data presented, came to the conclusion that the fuel pumps needed replacing. I agreed to this service which cost $2343.34. Approximately one month ago the engine light came on and started to misfire in the exact same fashion as it had before. So I shut it off, waited a minute and restarted it. This solved the misfire issue but the light stayed on. This experience prompted me to return it back to Ben and ask him why this was happening immediately after I had paid good money to solve this problem in the first place. He responded with an empty "these things happen" answer so I inquired as to whether his technician ran another diagnostic POST fuel pump replacement as a test. He said they did not. This leads me to believe that they could have done their due diligence and at least tested their work via digital diagnostics after the work was performed. So I asked Ben if he could run a diagnostic on this engine now and see what the report reads. He told me he would charge me another fee for that diagnostic. Bad answer. Today I went to another reputable import vehicle mechanic whom I have used on occasion and he told me to wait 30 minutes and he would bring my car in and run the diagnostic on it. One hour later he invited me into the shop and showed me the results right on the connected tablet. No charge for this service. One interesting point about this was that Ben had suggested that the diagnostic reading that he saw in February could be the cause of a buildup on the underside of the valves resulting in them not seating properly. When I asked him about the solution for this he said the best, but most expensive solution, was to pull the intake manifold and clean the carbon buildup off the valves. The price for this procedure was ridiculously steep. An alternative would be to take it out on a long highway drive to hope the buildup would disappear...emphasis here on the "hope" part. The quote I received today for the same process with the same result was significantly lower than the German Car quote. And this mechanic always stands behind his work 100%. So, I will take my car to this mechanic and save a stack of hundred dollar bills to boot. As I mentioned before, this review is not intended to take a jab at this particular German Car business nor is it a direct attack on Ben on the service desk in any way, shape or form. Vehicles do need service, that 's a given. But after 50 years of dealing with mechanics, several of those which are my personal friends, it is my strong belief that this business could do a lot better. For example, if Ben would have showed a little bit of customer appreciation and told me he wouldn't charge me for running another diagnostic on it this time, I most likely would have done the work there and paid the hefty price also. He should have run the diagnostic post fuel pump upgrade in the first place, no question. Do your homework! Customer Beware!

The service from German car specialties is outstanding attention to detail and Technical knowledge of my late model Mercedes.Between Ben my service advisor and the technicians they provided me with options on the repair and very detailed report. These people truly care about German cars and it shows. I would purchase more older German vehicles just so I can continue to deal with them five stars or 10 out of 10 I will be back again

I appreciate that my car is back on the road, and the staff I spoke with were polite. But overall, this was a frustrating experience. My car sat in the shop for four days with zero proactive updates—I had to call every time. I never received a written quote or an invoice; I only learned the total when paying over the phone, and nothing was ever emailed until After I settled the bill over the phone. Alignment was done, but the wheels weren’t balanced—doing one without the other makes no sense, especially with replacement tires. A simple road test would also have caught a non-working turn signal, but that was missed too - they would have made more $ and I would have a working signal. But no. Suspension diagnostics + wheel alignment + oil change + cabin/air filter =$1600 without road test where I would have spent extra$ To fix my turn signal that I forgot to mention but they would have caught with a road test. Most disappointing: I sent a polite but firm email outlining these concerns and received no reply at all. Their feedback channell run by their CRM called “steer” did not allow me to post, rather gave a warning error message. Yet I’ve been repeatedly pestered for a review. So here it is: courteous people, but no Proactive customer management,poor communication, Poor documentation, and no follow-up when a customer raises issues. That’s not the level of service I expect.

Had my 2011 BMW 335i Cabriolet in for regular service and to have the Twin Turbo and Blow off Valve checked- they just seemed to be malfunctioning and power was lacking. My car is Dinan Stage I with free flow exhaust and just wasn’t performing properly After careful and thorough inspection, the ECM showed 134 faults with the engine timing. Luckily German Car Specialists found this problem before the engine got totally “pooched”. GCS remedied the problem by replacing a Valvtronic Sensomotor and new Valve cover which was a huge engine job. Vehicle is running great. Thanks to GCS. And the new run flat tires were a great price despite being so hard to source.

Since we've had our Porsche Macan (3 years), we've only ever had it serviced at the Porsche dealership. Upon the recommendation of a lovely man at a German restaurant in Bragg Creek (Von Essen - absolutely outstanding...if you haven't been yet, RUN don't walk!) who very clearly knows German cars and mechanics, we brought our car here to be serviced. They got us in quickly and the service was super friendly and impeccable. We have most definitely found our new go-to for all of our car care needs.

Was recommended this shop when I told a coworker that I was looking for somewhere that had expertise in older german cars and would know how to inspect and fix anything properly. After sending my car there for the first time I couldn't be more impressed in the knowledge and ability of this place. They also seem extremely reasonable for costs which is another plus. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a trustworthy mechanic especially for older air cooled porsches.

Darrell, we searched through of systems and were able to locate a file under your name starting in 2013. However, the last service visit you had done at GCS was in 2016. We have no records of seeing or speaking with you since. We are not sure if you are referring to an issue that occurred at that time that was not reported to us or if this review is meant for a different repair shop. First time customer. I am very happy with the work completed. I had a transmission fluid leak with my Mercedes. Ben provided estimates for different scenarios and explained the details on what needed to be fixed. The repair was done on time. However, I found that there was still a slow leak the next day. I took my car back for another inspection. They found a defective OEM part, and replaced it without any charges. They also spent time on checking another issue that I have with the car and provided suggestions. Honest work with reasonable prices.

I had the front suspension of my 2015 Audi S3 repaired a couple months ago. They did a great job and it was about $400 less than at the dealership. Recently, I started getting a “Suspension System fault” coupled with “Headlight Sytem Fault” - the front desk staff suspected I spoke to suspected it was likely related to a Suspension sensor failure. I brought it for investigation and she was bang on. The sensor was replaced and I am off to the races again. I am thus far very please with the service at German Auto Specialists.

Fantastic experience for my first visit. I did not pay for an inspection and they still noticed some issues and notified me. Even my dealership didn't find the issue with an actual inspection! When I picked my car up, they had cleaned the floor mats and gave me a detailed report of the service. Very decently priced as well! This is my new go to place for sure!

My first time at GCS, I was quoted $6000 by Audi for some repairs needed on my S5. After speaking with Ben at GCS he gave me a well detailed quote on what I actually needed and came in literally thousands of dollars less than Audi. So I brought my 93 BMW here two weeks ago with the issue that I had “money shifted” the car, I asked them if they would check the piston heads and valves for damage. A day or two later they told me that the car runs but won’t idle (I knew that already) and then they proceeded to tell me we think it’s this we’re gonna replace it. I’m like OK sure. A week and a half later in a few other things they wanted to replace later, the bill was up to $2200. I was willing to pay it however I went back in in person and talk to them and asked again to please check the piston heads and valves with a camera,the technician comes back from lunch Does that and finds the valves are bent in cylinder six and that was causing low compression. So after a lot of this and that when I went to talk to them the next day, they told me that they chased problems down the wrong rabbit hole and dropped my bill accordingly from the $2200 down to the $375 that it would’ve costed in the beginning for the initial inspection and compression test. All in all props to them for admitting their mistake and adjusting the price. And I will recommend this place to anyone with a German car in Calgary and surrounding areas

I was taking my car at the Audi dealership and didn't find it personable enough since I was always dealing with different people. So a friend of mine recommended me to German Car Specialist and so happy that I tried them. My first visit was looking to buy some summer tires for my new car and Ben was the first one that assisted me. He was so professional and very knowledgeable regarding the different types of tires. I purchased some and also got them installed and boy was I happy with the product. I ended up going back to get my tires changed over from summer to winter along with oil change and inspection. Assisted me was Daniel and Beth and they were just so great to deal with. I just feel that auto shops need to be more like this that show that they are there for you and its not just the money. Melanie who shuttled me home was just the best with big smiles and very personable. When I picked up my car I was blown away that they even detailed my car inside out. I am such a happy customer and I will highly recommend this shop to all my friends and colleagues. Thank you so much for taking care of my pride and joy!

Was hesitant to buy a used Audi, but I was convinced by my uncle-in-law, and was told to go to this place for repairs/ regular maintenance. Finally I caved, and got a 2015 Q7. Had to come for wheel bearing repair the other day due to a humming sound. It was diagnosed and repaired, all in the same day. Responsibly priced too, I know wheel bearings are expensive for any vehicle. Will be back!

Everyone working there seems nice and was pleasant to deal with, but after getting after getting an out of province vehicle inspection, was quoted 45 minutes of work to replace one of the daytime running lights. Took me 3 minutes to do.

Booked an appointment 10 days in advance to have my def fluid tank deleted on my 2015 vw Touareg tdi and a stage 2 tune. Vehicle was finished in 7 hours runs and drives great, no more problems with codes popping up for def fluid tank now. Fast and professional service would definitely recommend taking your vehicle to them for any servicing or tuning.

The technician that worked on my vehicle is clearly an expert and located the engine problems that I had within a short timeframe and provided all the required information to have it fixed. Friendly atmosphere, fair pricing. The technician staying slightly late to come with me for a small test drive to explain his assessment of my issue which was good customer service. What I didn't particularly appreciate the customer service advisor admitting on the phone that the tech's had take the car on a (I quote) "spirited" test drive to assess the problem and once I returned to my car the dash was reading over 20 l/100km, meaning the car had been thrashed, especially in an industrial area, not on a highway.. There was absolutely no need to do this. This was quite annoying and disappointing.

We did try reaching out to you last week to discuss your concern with your recent visit. Due to the concern you were reporting with your Volkswagen it required multiple accelerations and decelerations while keeping the manual transmission in 1st and 2nd gear. Driving the vehicle in that manner for only 4KM will cause the fuel consumption to read high. Vehicles use the most fuel when driven in 1st gear. The vehicle was also driven while on the hoist to confirm no abnormal noises. We do apologize for the poor choice of wording from the service adviser. The technician did not drive the vehicle in an unsafe or abusive manner. The technician did accelerate at different speeds and loads during the short road test to attempt to duplicate your concern. Thank you for sharing your concern with us and we hope this helps to clear up any misunderstandings.

PRICE was very fair. They are on list of recommended and favourite Mechanics. And that list is very short so far This is the only company on the list

Due to the current and ongoing water restrictions the City of Calgary put in place weeks ago, our exterior hand washes have been suspended until the restrictions are lifted. Mercedes dealership has also suspended washes as well. We are all trying to do our part. GCS is an alternative to the dealer and big cooperation's. We have created service packages with inspections to allow our clients the option of what is performed on their vehicle and the cost. We do not claim to be a dealership. We are a locally family owned business that has been servicing Calgary for over 30 years.

This is my first time dealing with German Car Specialists. I made an appointment on June 6 on their website for the first appointment of the day on June 25 for a straightforward oil change and general check of my 2018 Audi A4 Allroad. I intended to wait for the vehicle and planned other appointments around the service. I received an email confirmation and text reminders leading up to the appointment. All good up until this point and I appreciated the ease in making the appointment. I showed up 10 minutes early and was told all their appointments were for drop offs unless otherwise stated. The receptionist was helpful but the next available waiting appointment was 3 more weeks away and while their shuttle would drop me off at home, it wouldn’t bring me back to pick up my vehicle. I had other appointments during the day and decided to pass on using them. I can’t speak to the quality of their mechanical service but the receptionist was very professional. It would be helpful if the website or the appointment confirmation mentioned that all appointments are drop offs. Just a suggestion from a potential new customer.

I really don’t know where to begin here. I don’t think google will allow as many words as I need to describe just how amazing this place really is! So I’ll just run through the basics. I brought my wife’s AMG Mercedes to this shop based on a recommendation from Wojtek Makiela, a colleague in the industry. I was very reluctant as the only work done on my wife’s Benz is done by the dealer. We don’t trust anyone else and never have. But it needed a ALOT of repairs from years of hard labour and we both agreed to give German Car Specialists a shot. This was easily the best decision we have ever made since owning our GLC 43. From start to finish the entire process was unmatchable. Even the dealership would struggle to compete with the level of professionalism, knowledge and understanding of the vehicle, the pricing, the facility itself and most importantly, the customer service I received the entire time from my service advisor Sam. She was one of the best parts of this entire process and was so meticulously organized with all of the information, pricing and time frames that I struggle to imagine anyone or any shop could do better. When we did finally get the car back after only two days (Mercedes quoted us a week plus for repair time) both me and my wife we absolutely blown away by the results. The car drives smoother, quieter, faster, and with better fuel economy than it ever did before! We both instantly fell in love with the Benz again and my wife was so happy with the end result, she was almost in tears. To top all of that off (as if it could get any better), the final price was not tens or hundreds less than we were quoted from Mercedes, it was thousands less!!! I urge anyone reading this to give this incredible shop a try because I promise you won’t be disappointed. Quite the opposite will be true in fact. This is by far the best mechanic/shop experience I have ever had and being a car guy and gear head of over 25 years, that’s saying a lot. I’d like to once again thank Sam, the shop foreman that worked on my car, and of course Wojtek Makiela for all of the work done, the amazing customer service, and the excellent condition and end result in which I received my vehicle. Thank you all so much and I’ll see you soon for the future regular maintenance! Update: 3 services on two separate Benz’ later and this is still the best shop in Calgary! Ben continues to maintain an unmatched level of customer service and support. Not once have I ever felt pressured to do unnecessary maintenance or repairs and his honesty and integrity is a breath of fresh air in todays world. If you are searching for a dealer approved shop to take your German vehicle for service or repair, look no farther, German Car Specialist is the only shop to go to.

Martin, I attempted to assist you with the concern you are having but that becomes impossible to do when you hung up on me twice and were constantly interrupting when I was attempting to discuss the situation with you. To say I have made you feel worse is interesting as you would not allow me to speak or help. We do not tolerate harassment/bullying in any way which is how I interpreted your actions. The last time we saw your Mercedes was January 3, 2024. You contacted us via email on Monday, May 6, 2024 reporting seeing engine oil around the passenger side of the engine. We scheduled you in for Thursday, May 9, 2024. Yes, the authorization that was emailed to you on Monday showed a charge as we did not know if something had failed causing an oil leak. You did not give us the opportunity to assess the situation. If you had given us the opportunity to look at the vehicle, we would have been able to determine if it was related to the service in January or not and adjust charges accordingly. Working through an issue takes both parties involved. Wish you all the best.

This was my first experience at German Car Specialist, and I must say it was exceptional. The level of customer service provided was superb, with the front desk staff demonstrating professionalism, promptness, and respect throughout. Notably, they were the sole shop in town capable of addressing the alarm system issue in my Audi. After investing nearly a thousand dollars in diagnostics elsewhere that yielded no resolution, I consider myself fortunate to have found them. Furthermore, their pricing is fair, without any unwarranted inflation.I'll definitely be returning.

All of the maintenance advisors at German Car Specialist are always great. They are all very knowledgeable, well informed and walk you through everything that is going on with your car. They're always willing to answer your questions and make you feel comfortable with the maintenance that is being performed. My ML320. Extremely happy! My former mechanic sold and I did not like the new owner so found a cheap mechanic off of Groupon, well what a nightmare, the one licensed mechanic owned the shop and his workers not licensed! Never inspected after the repair. Several oil changes I would have to return to have my change oil light reset, they changed my door actuators, which now I am not sure even needed to be done! I had an electrical problem and they could not figure it out, which initiated the door actuators being changed. My locks and alarm where a mess, very stressful. This Groupon mechanic, not German car experts, changed my actuators and said sorry we do not know why the locks and alarm are not working, too bad take it to the dealer. They also missed a major repair that could have destroyed my vehicle and would have impacted my safety. So not worth any money savings as the did not know German vehicles! These vehicles need licensed German car mechanics! Lesson learned! A trip to German Car Specialist, wish I went there first..my electrical problem, was a burnt out fuse! So happy I found German Car Specialist, knowledgable, thorough, professional, licensed German mechanics here. My service advisor, Marena was over the top helpful! My vehicle will be maintained as per Mercedes standards with German Car Specialist, very professional. Reasonably priced. Thank you German Car Specialist! Nov 2023 Brakes and new tires on my ML330 Mercedes. Awesome job, very reasonably priced! Marena sourced my tires which are a difficult size to find, they are wide, SUV tires. I did price shop. German Car Specialist found the best tires for my ML320 and the best price. Nice to be able to go to my trusted mechanic one stop. I usually leave my vehicle for the day for servicing. My wheels were double torqued at the shop so no need to return to have the 2nd torque done. Love this place. They are truly professional take beautiful care of my beautiful vehicles. I have two a CLK convertible I drive in the summer they service this one too for me to, to factory specs. They truly are "German Car Specialist" peace of mind. You need a good mechanic, expert for these fine machines. Highly recommended! Feb 2024 My ML320 is getting old. Beautiful machine, but it does have its aging issues. Still worth the fix as my ML is in immaculate condition! The latest issue, all of my dash lit up like a Christmas tree, no warning and my ML stoped working. Got her into German Car and we were dealing with a puzzle. At German Car Specialist they do not like to fix unless they know exactly what it is and at this point suspect was the computer module. This would have been an extremely expensive fix and that would determine the economic value of replacement. Do they wanted to be sure this was the issue before fixing. Sent me off without repair and it happened again this time I had to tow her in. A few more clues this time as I was paying attention. It was determined the carburetor was power surging and not recording on my vehicle computer. Again this was replaced by my previous mechanic "Not" a German car specialist, so another redo. People, these luxury cars need professionals. So many garages have one mechanic overseeing untrained workers. Yes less expensive at the time, but honestly, I have had almost everything replaced that my cheap mechanic installed. So no savings! German Car Specialist is less expensive than the dealer and with the same expertise and qualifications as the dealer. These cars require an expert. If you buy one, you need to go to German Car Specialist, you will regret it otherwise. My ML runs like a charm! Thank you again Marena and German Car Specialist staff! On the road again!

My VW wagon needed to have the DPF completely replaced, among other things, which is a huge job, so they had it for almost a week, but Ben was very consistent about communicating with me through the whole process. He also took the time to patiently answer my questions very knowledgeably, and with a lot of detail, and not once did I feel he was trying to up-sell me on something I didn’t need, or offer me options that might make the vehicle performance only appear good in the short term. He also listened patiently as I worked through my options verbally (as I always do) and offered more data when my process was missing it. I would highly recommend this place!

Second visit to get brakes on my X5. Again the process is smooth and based on the 1st time experience. Staff polite and clear. Expectations are discussed and set up front in terms of work scope and cost estimate. The communication during the day and overall process is great. Terrible service and it's almost a fraud. Went for a service that requires changing filters and other parts and ended up with oil change and "full inspection" that costed over 400 bucks for an oil change. Never again. I don't recommend at all

Haitham, the authorization that you signed when you dropped the vehicle off clearly details exactly what you are being charged for. The invoice was the same when you picked up the vehicle. The process for this visit was the same as your last when the brakes were replaced. The engine air filter and cabin air filters are inspected (if no disassembly is required) and we then advise the client if they are in need of replacement or not. We believe in giving our clients the option of what and when they would like a component replaced on their vehicle. You were upset that we were not able to pick you up from the gym after the service was completed even though you were advised of that before your appointment. Our team member who does the shuttles in the morning hand washing the vehicle (time and weather permitting) after the service/repair is completed. Unfortunately, we were unable to wash vehicles due to the extreme cold when you were here for service. We are a family owned and operated business which does make us smaller than a corporate dealership. We wish you all the best.

Right from the start I felt comfortable when speaking with Beth at the front counter. As a car guy for the last 30 plus years, she nicely informed me, that my car did not have a timing belt but a timing chain. Man this lady knows her stuff! :) Immediate identification of the issue at hand was the next step in satisfaction. Everything went smoothly from being greeted with a smile to the efficient transfer to the Technicians in the shop, where they quickly assessed and identified the reason for the service light illumination which could have been like looking for a needle in a haystack A phone call with a in depth analysis and a very reasonable price to repair the issue at hand was obtained only hours later and now with all the other requested service work completed, I too am driving away with a smile! This is defiantly a one stop service shop with everything from a courtesy shuttle home from the start, to a professionally cleaned vehicle at pick up time. Please continue with the impeccable service, knowledgeable staff and the stellar technicians and in turn it will bring many European sport car enthusiasts in. to call this place “Home”

This is a great place for repairs and maintenance of your vehicle. I wish I had known this when I first moved to Calgary a few years ago. Replacement of my blower motor and Regulator was less than 1/3 of the price at German Car Specialist, than it was at a local Dealership. The front-end person is Marena, wonderful, knowledgeable and a great communicator, and while I didn't meet him personally, Technician Mike Breel did a great job. I highly recommend GCS for your automotive work, and we will be taking both of our family vehicles to them for maintenance and repair work in the future. Thank you GCS Team!

I would like to thank the team at German Car Specialist for my recent visit there for much needed maintenance. I had a number of issues with my 2011 TT. It took a couple of visits, but that was due to myself needing the car. Once I was able to leave the car over night everything was resolved before the end of day 2. Including ignition coil issue was misfiring. If you are ever changing your coils. DO NOT BUY THE CHEAP CHINESE KNOCK OFFS. The ones that were installed by the previous owner lasted less than 30000km. Thank you once again to Marena my service advisor whom informed me on all that was going on with my car. Thank you also to Ivan the Technician that worked on the car. I am sure there are a few more. This outfit is outstanding! Took my Sprinter van to 3 shops including Mercedes and they were unable to diagnose the issue. Wasted thousands of dollars for towing and diagnostics fees. 3 months my van was out of service . German specialists found the problem on first day and had it fixed the same week. This will be my go to shop going forward.

I know nothing about keeping a car shop running and can understand they charge for diagnosing as someone has to pay for time and tools (fit for purpose and case by case). My only recommendation is asking for any charges upfront and before getting to the door, so no surprises. I usually give away my unbiased opinion in 10' or less as a way to help and to possibly expand my client base, the old way, just a thought. Also, how about throwing the diagnosis money into the final bill if repairs approved?

In order to properly diagnose the malfunction with the iDrive system and radio on your BMW, it would require the vehicle coming into the shop with our trained technician and use of the factory scan tool. It would not be something that can be diagnosed from the parking lot. We believe in the value of diagnosis in order to replace the correct part the first time. It is important to us to supply our clients with most accurate information as possible.

Took our VW to this shop for DSG problem. They recommended replacing the mechatronic unit. 2nd gear would not engage sometimes from 1st in automatic shift mode. $4000 later and several weeks we got the car back and it is worse. Sometimes 1st doesn't engage and sometimes 2nd still plus the car has "dropped the clutch" shifting into 2nd. They said just drive the car it'll get better as it learns new adaptations. It's only gotten worse. Would not recommend any car here for any transmission or diagnostic needs. Will not be back.

Hi Mike. Ryan brought his GTI to us in July for diagnosis. There were faults for clutch adaptive learning and pressure control valves 1 & 2. The mechatronic unit had failed which prevented any further transmission diagnostics without replacing the mechatronic itself. We had advised Ryan that we were concerned about this as there may still be a mechanical issue with the transmission. This happened before proceeding with the replacement of the mechatronic unit. Ryan asked us to proceed with the mechatronic replacement even though it may need more than that. The vehicle was here for 10 days from diagnostic to replacement of the mechatronic as it was a special order component. After replacing it, we then test drove the vehicle for 70km before returning the vehicle back to Ryan. When Ryan picked up the vehicle he did return right away as he felt an issue. Our shop foreman drove it again while you and Ryan were still here and the transmission was shifting properly. We advised either leaving the vehicle with us to further the diagnosis or take the vehicle and monitor. Ryan took the vehicle at that time. Ryan then drove the vehicle for 5 days without issue and as we understand now, the vehicle was then parked for over a month. Ryan returned in September with transmission shifting issues. We then diagnosed the issue and attempted to find a solution for the gear selector lever not fully engaging second gear. Unfortunately, it would require the DSG transmission to be replaced. We did source a good used transmission to which the new mechatronic unit could be transferred over to. We told him when the vehicle was picked up that if he wanted to proceed with the repair, we would help reduce the transmission replacement cost. We understand the frustrations with expensive repairs and try to work with people as much as possible. We did not mislead anyone here and would be happy to try and help with the problem if you wish to work with us. Sincerely, Dennis

These guys are great! I bought this 2011 Jetta that turned out to have an intermittent stalling problem. Taking it to other shops didn't help me at all - the others weren't able to correctly diagnose the problem and I got no results at all. One shop charged me for their incorrect guess at a solution and I wound up stalling in traffic again. German Car Specialist's customer liason communicated with me effectively, and their tech got to the source of the problem very quickly. It was a broken ECU that would stall the vehicle if it jiggled the wrong way. I was very happy with the professionalism of German Car Specialist and the effectiveness of their people. Moving forward, I will be going to them whenever I have an issue with this or any other German vehicle.

I took my B7 A4 in, never been here before and got a CVI/insurance inspection done on my car. The front end service was amazing, they were diligent with response to any questions or inquiries I had and very friendly. The actual work on my car was done within the quoted time and price from the estimate and went above and beyond to make it worth while. I'm usually very sceptical of mechanic shops as I was in that field of work for some time but they really stood out and gained my utmost respect for how they do things. I appreciate how they manage the work load and service. I will definitely be going back for the future and highly recommend to anyone interested. I felt I got my money's worth with German car specialist. Also I never write reviews for anything so this should speak volumes to someone who is trying to decide where to go.

Top quality service. From the first call with Service Advisor Guy, to meeting Dennis the owner, to having my vehicle serviced (an X5 E70 Diesel). Both were very knowledgeable about German cars. GCS offered more for less when compared to other shops. Hands down I would trust to bring my vehicle to GCS as I know it will be in good hands. A German Car Specialist shop that knows and understands German cars. German cars are not the same as domestic vehicles. Looking forward to bringing my vehicle back in a month for a full diesel emmisions alphabet delete and tune! .. 2023 update, brought my X5 back to German Car Specialist, and was not dissaointed. Diaagnosis, repair and if an oil leak as well as regular maintenance. Ben the service adviser as always kept me in the loop with updates and pictures also of the diagnosis and repair of an oil leak situation. A very honest and trustworthy shop to bring your German car to, I have no hesitations coming back again and again.

German Car Specialist's work is as thorough as the communication throughout the process of a small A or B service (on a Mercedes) or a procedure more complicated like gasket replacement or vaccuum pumps and the like. I had a very scary experience where I had a major tire blowout on QE2. I am from our of town and had my vehicle towed here based on the reviews and it's proximity. I do not regret my choice. In fact I will probably drive to Calgary to have any future repairs on my vehicle as I was so impressed with how I was treated and the professionalism. Our Smart Car would not start sometimes during hot weather. The Mercedes dealer's approach, was replacing one part after another, hoping this would eventually address the cause of the problem, it never did. After an in-depth diagnostic process, Ben's team at the German Car Specialist uncovered the cause, and fixed the problem. We are very happy with the work done, and with the updates we received during the search for the cause of the starting problem. We can finally "trust" our car again, and go places without having to worry about possibly not being able to drive home.

A repeat five star performance for this team! I had a 2000 Alpina B3 3.3 in the shop for a ‘difficult to diagnose’ cold start issue. Ben, Con and the tech support group worked methodically through the issues for a very satisfactory result. It is nice to experience that beautifully tuned naturally aspirated straight six running so well! Thanks, everyone!

Went in and asked if I can could scan my car to check the code because it was previously not driven by the last owner for two weeks. They informed me it takes an hour for the computer to scan the car because it’s NEW model Mercedes and that also they said no one could do it because everyone is on lunch. I informed I will pay and book an appointment if there’s any problem - so they couldn’t because they’re booked. Went down the road to the Italian shop. Lady called a mechanic with-in a minute to scan the car with no questions asked. With in 2 minutes he was done and printed out the diag. He didn’t want me to pay but I insisted. Only writing this review to caution anyone who doesn’t want to hear any BS.

Hi, we are unable to confirm when you came in to request a scan. For any scans done on the vehicles we service are performed with the factory scan tools. For Mercedes, that would be Xentry. To perform our procedures properly, so the client receives the best service and the most accurate information possible, that does take time to go through. We are not always able to accommodate walk-in's. Our team works very hard and deserves to have their lunch with minimal interruptions.

Used this shop to try to fix my BMW 328xi battery drain but they couldn’t find the actual problem. They told me my CAS module needed to be replaced and that was what was causing my battery to drain. Got the model replaced and a new battery put in, the car worked for a day and didn’t start after that. Called them and talked to them about it. They said they didn’t know what else was causing the drain and wanted to replace more things in my car without knowing what the actual problem is. Shop looks nice and people talk like they know what they’re doing but the rate is expensive and not worth it. Took my car to a different shop and got my car actually looked at, found the real problem and got it fixed. Wouldn’t recommend this place unless you want to spend more than you should.

Hi Andrew We understand you are frustrated and has cost you more than you would like. We get it. Our perspective - when your BMW first arrived to us on a tow truck it was completely inoperative. The vehicle had no power, steering wheel would not unlock, transmission would not shift out of park. We had to put the vehicle on dollies and push into a work bay in order to start the diagnostic process. The vehicle had to be manually scanned and ISTA ( the BMW factory scan tool ) could not identiy the vehicle VIN. There was also no communication with the DME, DCS, or EGS and terminal 15 read 0V (the computer "wake up" signal). We had authorization from you to continue with the required diagnosis and confirmed the CAS module had failed. You gave us your authorization to order and replace the module. Once the CAS module was replaced and programmed, we were then able to start and drive the vehicle. During this first road test several other issues were reported that we would not have been able to identify as the vehicle came in completely inoperative. You declined any further steps and took the vehicle knowing there were still issues. You picked up the vehicle with all the information, including videos and pictures, knowing what condition the vehicle was in. We had not looked into a battery draw complaint as we were told to stop any further work by you. We understand the frustrations that come with a vehicle that has multiple issues and failures. However, if we are not authorized to look into these issues we can't be expected to have any solutions. Dennis (the owner) has discussed this with you as well and offered to help as much as we can. You decided to use another shop and a few days ago you contacted us saying they had told you that the new BMW battery that was installed here was defective. We had you return the battery to us for testing before we could confirm this. We performed three load tests on the battery with passing results each time. We are unable to send a battery back to BMW that is not defective. Hope this clears it up for you and anyone else who may be following this.

Two friends recommended I take my Mercedes Benz to German Car Specialist to repair my windshield washer that quit working, the drivers side mirror needed replacing and my dash showed a bulb burned out. I phoned the shop and explained what I needed and was scheduled for an appointment within a few days. I arrived at the shop when it opened in the morning and the repairs were done within a few hours. I was very pleased with the helpful staff and service and will be taking my car to German Car Specialists going forward. Highly recommend this shop and will recommend to others!

Most recently - We don't use our Mini Countryman enough and have been having battery issues when we do. The German Car Specialists explained what was going on, put in a new battery and set up a maintainer for us. They are friendly, knowledgeable and professional. We never feel like they are upselling us. As a bonus - we always enjoy seeing the dogs.

Called GCS after I was recommended to use them for a break pad replacement (and a few months later, my car battery). I don’t know a lot about the mechanics of cars, so finding someone who could clearly explain the process was important to me. The process here was as painless as possible. They clearly explained everything they were going to investigate while keeping the cost reasonable. I’ve recommended them on the Alberta Mercedes FB page and will continue to support this business. They clearly care about their customers as they’ve followed up with me and asked how things were even months after the fix.

German cars are stupid expensive to repair anymore, very complex and finicky. If you insist on driving one, i do, at least get it repaired somewhere where it will be done right and the staff will take the time to explain exactly what is going on so you are not constantly in the dark. This is a great place to have your car serviced.

Good day Soso G. Are you Solomon Ghebrehiwet? If so, you called us this morning for help with your Mercedes check engine light - our service advisors tried to assist you. However, you were very rude and swearing. We use the factory Mercedes scan tool to provide a proper scan on the vehicle - that comes with a cost. We do not tolerate swearing, verbal abuse or rude behavior of any kind. Hope you are able to find a repair shop to assist you as we will not be able to be that shop anymore. If this is not Solomon, then please call to discuss your concerns - thank you.

I emailed this shop for a quote for my car. Sam was fantastic. She sent me the quote quickly and even arranged for a ride home. Unfortunately they were completely booked and I need the issue resolved quickly as my timing chain need to be replaced asap. And I had the repair done elsewhere (at a higher cost). But Sam's costmer service and professionalism will certainly make me consider booking my car in for future services at this shop.

GCS repaired my clutch, replacing the master and slave hydraulic cylinder, and flywheel. Also fixing a leak and aligning the wheels afterwards. Before hand they did a full inspection of the vehicle and gave me options for what services they provide. My mini Cooper runs beautifully again.

Simply put…Beth is the best! Have been a long time customer of German Car Specialist and have taken all of our German brand cars there over the years. Recently had an issue arise with my vehicle which involved loud rattling and had the potential to be serious. Called and they were booking 2 weeks out (along with every shop in the city) as people were making a mad dash to have their winter tires installed after the first snowfall. Spoke with Beth and she was incredibly understanding of the situation and managed to fit me in the same day for a quick inspection of the problem right away, given the safety concern. Everything got sorted out right away. This isn’t a one time occurrence; Beth is always professional with a “customer first” attitude and knows her cars. As long as Beth is there, I won’t take my car elsewhere. Such an amazing asset for GCS to have Beth as Service Manager.

The booking and reception was good. However there are concerns with the service undertaken by the technicians. My wife keeps an inaccurate vehicle which is apparent when you sit in it. The technicians stepped on the threshold leaving marks. As well a hydraulic Jack that has been in the trunk for years was knocked over which leaked oil into the trunk. Fortunately the oil drained onto a rubber mat in the trunk so it was an easy cleanup.
